Life in Dauntless was a lot more high stake than he thought it was - it was definitely nothing like Erudite. Primarily he had decided to train separately from Zelda, it would do both of them good to be on their own for once. Zelda had a better handle on the training however, she was fast and dodged fairly well. Drew on the other hand was slightly bulkier but he was decently speedy for his weight range. Unfortunately he was one of the shorter men here, seeing as he was barely five foot fine, but he didn't think that would really effect him too much. He believed that the bigger they were, the harder they'd fall. As long as he and Zelda made the cut…that was all that was important. He was just worried about if they couldn't…being factionless was a horror he didn't want to face - and wouldn't allow his sister face, at least not alone anyway. He had to train to remain on top and just hope the next leg of initiation wasn't impossible for a boy from Erudite to overcome.
The barracks for the initiates was pretty spartan, he had to admit. Zelda had commented several times about bringing in decorations, but she had been declined. He would have told her no too…given the fact she would of covered the room in flowers. She would've made the ideal Amity, but she had chosen Dauntless, and so had he, so they both had to adhere to their choice. He had to admit though, Dauntless did have it's perks. They were a lot wilder than the other factions - but they were also brave and focused. He hadn't really thought about Dauntless before Zelda had chosen…in fact on his Aptitude test he had received Candor oddly enough. He had no idea what Zelda had been given and they didn't really talk about anything before coming Dauntless now anyway.
Drew let out a breath before rising from his bunk, he was wearing the usual black tank top and jeans as he went down the hallway towards the training room. There wasn't anyone around right now, so he pretty much had the place to himself. He was drawn to the punching bag off to the side, he wrapped his hands first before aiming a few punches against it. The impact of the blows reverberated throughout the room and echoed into the corridors. He stopped for a moment, hoping he wasn't disturbing anyone, after waiting a little longer, nothing stirred. So he continued to pound his fists against the bag, his time and speed seemed to be alright, but his technique felt a little off. He tended to favor his right side as well…that would be a problem.

Jinx woke up only sweating. No screaming or crying, she was glad for that. No one would complain today that way and she didn't need to punch the punching bag to open the wounds on her knuckles from the bag. She was sure a few were broken because she never wraps her hand up. She doesn't see the point in it.
Jinx got dressed in a black tank top and sorts. She put on her black combat boots and ran to the training room to see if any of the initiates were there. When she got there she saw drew. One if the initiates that reminded her of herself. He was shy and keep to himself like she did.
She saw all the mistakes he was making. She walked over to him and smiled. She spoke in a calm "i see you favor your right side. That won't help you much though“.

The room had been rather quiet but the sound of footsteps and finally words startled him. "I can see you favor your right side. That won't help you much though." He did didn't he…he had noticed it before but wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not, apparently it wasn't. That meant he had to find a different way to approach the punching bag - it was his stand in for an actual opponent so if he couldn't attack correctly, than he knew he wouldn't do too well fighting his fellow initiates. The other initiates seemed to take to fighting naturally - probably because quite a few were Dauntless born and then there were just those that got lucky. That would certainly be a challenge - but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
"Is there a way to avoid favoring it?" he inquired, glancing at the girl curiously. She was one of the instructors if he remembered correctly, though he wasn't sure if he ever caught her name. He stopped pounding on the punching bag and focused on talking to her. "I'm Drew, but you probably already knew that." His gaze flickered - he was trying to remember if he knew her name or not. The boy just drew blanks however, he was sure he had learned on the first day but he had learned so much lately that it had probably vanished by now. Zelda would've known - she was great with names and faces. Unfortunately she was still back at the barracks sound asleep - she was a late sleeper.
Training offered him time to think - back in Erudite be preferred to walk but here he had obligations to uphold. Though he never thought he would learning how to fight a year ago, things had definitely changed since choosing day. He had thought for sure that Zelda would choose Amity, but now here he was, but he didn't really regret it. To be honest he had never agreed with Amity's ideals and even though he was a hard worker - farming wasn't his style. Fighting hadn't been either…but at least the mindset around here was more to his liking. If only he could he could overcome the obstacles and advance - now that was something to look forward to.

When the boy asked if there was a way to stop favoring one side she nodded. There was a way to stop it, it was also easy but required lots of practice. She moves towards the punching bag and went to show him but she remembered her knuckles. She knew if she punched the bag she would be in a treat and would have to go to the infirmary. "I would show you but..." She clenched her fists and showed them to him.
"But the way that you stand helps. Try standing opposite the way you are now." Jinx relaxed her hands while she talked and let them fall to her side. Jinx loved fighting and loved helping people get better. He said his name and she nodded to the boy.
"I know your name. I'm Jinx." She said. Helooked as if he knew her but didn't know her name. "Dont forget it again" she said jokingly.

He watched her closely as he was shown her fists. Oh..well that made sense, he didn't want to cause her any trouble if her fists weren't in the best shape. Drew blinked as he heard her explain what to do to counteract favoring his right side. He followed her instructions and began leaning a bit more on his left side, surprisingly he evened out - giving an optimal fighting stance. Well that was certainly helpful and would probably help him a lot once the first stage of initiation came around seeing as for now they were just training. If he had wanted to advance to the next stage he had to be sure to get this stance down as well as use his advantages and know his disadvantages.
It took a lot of strategic planning to fight, which initially surprised him. Growing up he thought Dauntless was a bunch of fighting machines - they received orders and they filled them, kind of like drones. Then again that might've just been the Erudite in him talking, now that he was here, he realized that was definitely not the case. Though they may not have been as scholarly as the Erudite, Dauntless wasn't a group of uneducated ruffians like he had first assumed. "Thank you for answering my question. Would that help bring more power to my punches? Brute strength isn't really my strong suit..." he admitted, seeing as she was being a great help and in doing so meant he had to be polite. That and she was his superior so he needed to be grateful at least. "I'm fast though so that has to count for something."
"I know your name. I'm Jinx." Oh so that's what it was, it made sense to him now. He hadn't seen her talk much before she seemed to be pleasant which was interesting to see given the Dauntless reputation. Don't forget it again." He blinked, staring at for a moment with a blank expression. Was she being serious? He hadn't meant to forget it…he just couldn't handle the information overload that he had received upon entering the Dauntless compound. As the moment of realization came, he relaxed - she was joking, of course she was. Her demeanor was far from hostile. "I'll be sure to remember you this time." he said before giving her a curt nod.

She put her hands behind her back as he did what she told him to do. his punching did even out put she could still see the struggle he was having with not being able to punch hard enough. He would just have to keep practicing. She was about to turn around and leave when he spoke.
"I know a guy named Red. He is small but has a very hard punch. I'm small but fast, your just fast. Being small and fast helps, but being more built and fast doesn't. Your opponent has more targets that way. You just need to keep practicing." Jinx didn't honestly care anymore about her knuckles she stood at the punching bag next to his and got in her stance. She looked at him and spoke.
"this is my stance. Now if i move to the opposite side and punch." She turned get body the opposite way and punched the bag as hard as she could with her left arm. The bag went away from her but not as far as it would have had she used her right arm. She looked down at her knuckles and saw blood peaking out she shrugged and turned back to drew. "Just keep practicing. You will get it. First stage is easy the next two are harder. Trust the candor-dauntless girl." She never told anyone she was from candor. Other than the other initiates that were in her group. She was dauntless now. The past didn't matter.

It appeared that she was going to leave now so he turned back to the bag to aim another punch. He stopped when he heard her speak again. A guy named Red? Hm, they had the advantage of being small then…Drew was roughly 5'9, about average height to be honest. He wasn't big enough to be intimidating, nor small enough to aim angled blows at his opponents. How was he going to get past the first round? He pressed his lips together in a firm line when she said that he just had to practice. All he had been doing was practicing…but there was old saying about practicing though. Practice made perfect, but how long would that take?
He stepped back as he watched Jinx punch the bag. He watched in silence as he noticed her knuckle was now bleeding but didn't say a word. He didn't want to piss her off about her knuckles, she probably already knew about it. She was rather good, but that was probably because she was a instructor after all. Perhaps practice was all he really needed after all. As a transfer he was already at a disadvantage so as he kept up exceeded the others he should at least pass this. Zelda had already shown she was ready for this by slamming him into the ground yesterday. His shoulder was still a little sore from that.
What she said next took him by surprise. "You're a transfer?" he asked, though it was rhetorical. "I was under the assumption that the instructors were Dauntless born." he admitted before letting out a breath. "Well it's good to see that transfers do pretty well around here. Do you miss your old faction?" Ah well, hopefully that didn't earn him a dirty look. He normally monitored what he was going to say before hand in his head but that just kinda slipped out. "I mean…do you ever think about it?" he murmured, trying to rephrase it.

Jinx could tell that what she said had taken him by surprise. It was actually kinda funny. He thought that all instructors were dauntless-born. "That's what dauntless wants you to think. Once you make it past initiation, if you do, then you are dauntless now. Dauntless molds you into their own personal minion basically." jinx turned a little bit and sighed. She looked down at her knuckles when he asked if she missed candor.
She shook her head and started rubbing her wrists. You could hardly see her scars from where she used to cut herself now but if she got cold they were very visible. "There was a reason I left initiate." She didn't mean to sound mean but it came out that way. She hated her parents and wanted them dead.
She let her arms fall to her side once more before speaking, "lesson number one, forget your faction. You chose us so you are dauntless now." she said. She wanted to leave, Jinx wanted the comfort of her brother that she had gotten when she saw him at the hub. True she shouldn't miss him, faction before blood, but she did.

Her response was less than pleasant, but he guessed not everyone came to Dauntless just because they liked their lifestyle - there were other reasons as well. Other reasons that Drew wouldn't know much about, seeing as he came from a Erudite strong family background, and thought he was going to Amity before choosing day. Life - or Zelda rather, had a way of throwing curve balls, and he could see why the phrase 'faction before blood' was important. You couldn't divide your loyalties - even if your family was in a different faction. He didn't agree with it, but it made sense, but he wasn't sure if he could turn his back on Erudite just yet.
He still had siblings there, and even though his brother was upset with his choice - for both he and Missy had chosen Erudite, they were still brothers. Blood was thicker that water wasn't it? It wasn't a good idea to mix them though, they were separate substances - much like faction and family. The faction to represent who you were, and family to tell you where you've been. "I'm sorry if I upset you…" he murmured as he realized he may have angered with his question. He didn't seek to piss of his instructors, just learn what he could from them. Apparently he was getting off to a rough start with that, he would have to remedy that.
"lesson number one, forget your faction. You chose us so you are dauntless now." He was Dauntless now, but there still the matter of them choosing him. That's what he had been told when he had arrived. It was a two way street here, and Dauntless was the faction that produced the most factionless. He couldn't imagine being factionless, so he had to keep his head above water and do what he could to remain in Dauntless. "I see." he answered, his voice quiet. "Than I'll do my best to have Dauntless choose me. I'm sorry if I wasted your time, I realize it's not my place to ask such questions. It's a habit I've been trying to break."
