Adelaide was having a good day. She hadn't been working with the counselors today, she had been in the fields by choice. The weather was warm with a cool breeze which made the perfect weather for picking fruit. She had been with the group, her group. They were her family now, and she loved them all. They had taken turns telling funny stories and singing songs, anything fun to pass the time. To some this work might have been meaningless, it might seem boring and dull but to her it was peaceful, and without them doing this job factions wouldn't have food. They provided the food for most of the factions, they themselves were completely self-sufficient. She enjoyed being apart of something that was so needed. She worked with the group all day and headed in to the showers when the work was done.
She quickly showered and changed before their dinner. She always looked forward to the nightly dinners. In Dauntless they were rambunctious at times and loud, but it was always laced with nervousness. It was like everyone was expecting a fight to break out, which usually did happen. There was no happiness, there was no communal eating and friendly fellowship. She enjoyed being able to savor her food and converse with those around her. She enjoyed playing games and singing during meals. She made her way to the dining hall and looked around briefly. She waved to a passing friend of hers and sat down to some food at a table near the outside of the room. The food was incredible here. It was true...the cake wasn't as good. She doubted there would ever be any cake as good as Dauntless cake but she enjoyed the food here.
All of the fruit and vegetables were fresh, and the dinner choices were never too heavy nor too light, it was perfect. There was something beautiful in working outside and then eating the food you had picked prepared fresh. It wasn't very crowded so she could still see the stage where two kids seemed to be putting on a play. She smiled a bit at the two acting. It appeared to be a drama, but the two had taken a spin on it and turned it into a overly dramatic drama. The room was soon laughing together as the two continued acting on the stage. She wished her brother was here. She envied the families who grew up together here. The kids who were never separated and forced to be something they weren't. They were the lucky ones, she looked over at a family eating together talking and laughing. She couldn't help the small frown that formed on her face. She tried to ignore it....she had a great day, and was eating a great meal and belonging to a great new family...there was nothing she had to be sad about. She knew that mentally, but telling herself that emotionally was something else entirely. She took a sip of her drink and sighed a little.

Darian stepped out of the shower, steam billowing out around him. He dried his messy hair with a towel, looking down at his body with a small sigh. It was no wonder he would have never made it in Dauntless. It wasn't that he was weak, in fact, his body was covered in lean muscle from days in the field, but compared to the tattooed, pierced and muscle-bound guys in Dauntless. Sometimes he wondered what if he had been, what if he was like his brother, what if he had stayed. A pair of eyes flashed into his mind, he could feel a slap burning at his cheek.
With a small sigh, he grabbed his clothes, tugging on a red dress shirt and jeans. Grabbing his guitar, he slipped it onto his shoulders, the case pressing familiarly against his back. That was the past. This was his new life and he enjoyed it. This was home. He had to get her out of his head, it had been a year since then, he had to. She had probably forgotten all about him and moved on. That was that. So, with a smile, he walked out of his room and towards the cafeteria for lunch.
As he entered, the sound of quiet laughter and talking was a welcome distraction. Immediately he got greetings, smiles, asking if he would be playing a song tonight. He laughed and said he might. This was Amity. It was happiness and it was his home. As he grabbed a train he went to grab food. Despite having lived in Amity for a year, he hadn't quite outgrown the appetite he had in Dauntless. He piled his plate full of food. Even then, he had always been quite the eater, yet he never really gained any weight or bulk, to the disappointment of his parents.
As he glanced around at the crowded cafeteria, he looked for a place to sit. A head of golden hair caught his eyes. Walking over to her, he caught the look on her face. The corners of his lips turned down a little, his smile faltering. Leaning down to whisper in his ear, he smiled.
"Such a pretty girl like you shouldn't be frowning. You look a lot cuter with a smile." He said as he sat down next to her. "What's wrong Adi?" Concern laced his face as he looked at his friend. The two had known each other in Dauntless, although they had never really spoken. Then, when the choosing ceremony happened, they decided to switch factions from the rough and wild Dauntless to the peaceful life in Amity. A stark change. It was so different and the two of them had been alone, thus they started to bond and he grew to greatly care about the blonde.

She jumped a little when someone began whispering in her ear, her old Dauntless reflexes kicking in to turn sharply in her seat and face whoever it was. She however instantly smiled and relaxed as she saw a familiar face. It was a face that she had seen in her Dauntless days, one she had come to bond with. Adelaide had noted another difference in the factions. Where in Dauntless someone leaning in close to you and whispering usually meant something horrible was about to happen here it was just another friendly way to communicate. Here there was no hostility or a need to constantly be on vigil.
She noticed the concern on Darian's face and she smiled reassuringly. " Thank you, I'm fine really....just thinking about things that shouldn't be thought about." She tried to push the thoughts of her old life out of her head. This was her new life, this was where she belonged. They didn't want her when she had been living there, so why give a thought to them now that she was out and away from them? She missed her brother of course, she would always miss Vin, but not her parents. She wasn't meant to be like the other kids sitting about the cafeteria, she was supposed to do this alone. Although technically not alone because she had her new family, and she had an old friend here to help her with it as well.
She glanced over at his guitar, changing the subject. " So...are you going to play tonight?" She always loved to hear Darius play, he was very gifted. A gift that had they stayed in Dauntless she would have never gotten the chance to see. The Dauntless worked so hard at turning people into soldiers, forcing them to not be a human, not feel like a human. Forget anything happy and fun, that was all considered a weakness. She couldn't have lived like that forever. She continued to eat her meal and looked over at her friend.
