personality: When you meet Darian, he comes off as a ball of energy that always seems to be smiling, He's somewhat childish and goofy, and he loves to socialize with people. He's very active and friendly and outgoing, just a bubbly boy who loves life. He's rather impatient and tends to speed into things, a habit that he picked up from Dauntless. He's the type of person who walks into the room and introduces himself to everyone, who pulls people out of the corners and gets them to dance. He's a bit of a flirt, as he thinks girls are adorable and loves to see them blush and smile when he compliments them. He doesn't like violence when it isn't necessary, something that made it so he was an outcast in Dauntless. He'd rather sort through things through talk. He's just a typical Amity boy and it was clear that he would have never made it in Dauntless, its a surprise that he survived up until his choosing ceremony.
This isn't to say Darian can't be serious. Darian is a person who can trust with your deepest secrets, who will listen and care about you, even if you think no one else will. He treasures friends as being the most valuable thing a person can have in life. He knows fully well that if it wasn't for kitty, he probably would be dead at the bottom of the chasm at this point.
Darian's constant worry is that he's a burden and doesn't fit in anywhere he goes. He tends to be sensitive and when he's alone, his mind drifts away, becoming rather quiet and very different from the personality he puts up when with other people. He uses music as an escape and to express himself, as he often tries to keep his emotions in check, as to not worry anyone with them.

history: Darian was born into the Dauntless faction with 3 (that's right. 3!) older brothers. The youngest, and definitely the smallest, Darian was never the star of the family. He was always picked on and when he and his brothers would wrestle, he ended up at the bottom of the doggie pile. That's how life mostly was for Darian. He tried to be brave, but he could never grasp the Dauntless ways, he was too gentle, too kind and he refused to get piercings and tattoos as needles terrified him. At one point, he even got a fake piercing just to impress his parents (it was clipon). He was constantly bullied by those bigger than him and poor little Darian refused to fight back despite his brothers and parent's urging. His only escape, was that he found a love of music.
The only person who ever cared about Darian was his best friend, who he affectionately called 'kitty' or 'kittysaurus', as she often called him puppy for his very goofy and childish nature. The two were inseparable, she was everything a Dauntless should have been. She was bold, sarcastic, strong, tough and Darian was almost jealous of her. The bad side was that everyone thought Darian was just pulling her down with him. Everyone knew that there was no chance that Darian would stay, even if he chose Dauntless, and they were afraid that they'd take such a promising girl such as kitty with him. One day, Darian was wandering about the compound, nearby the Chasm, when he saw kitty being surrounded by a group of boys. They kept prodding at her, pushing her closer towards the railing. His heart was pounding out of the chest. They were threatening her, asking her why such a gorgeous girl was spending time with a loser like him. It was because of him. Darian knew that was the last straw. He punched one in the face, relying on everything his siblings had done to him, but it wasn't enough. All his days of avoiding training and physical education were really punching him in the face. Quite literally. He was beaten so badly that he was in the infirmary for days. After this, his family stopped talking to him. Kitty was the only person who ever spoke to him, but the day she came to visit. He told her he wanted nothing to do with her anymore. He gave no reason. He couldn't let her get hurt because of him.
When Darian 16, his choice was clear. He chose Amity and never looked back. The change was drastic and Darian was happier, but he never quite recovered from what happened with kitty. He missed her like crazy and wondered if he made the right choice. But it didn't matter anymore. He became a musician in Amity, pursuing his love of music. The past was the past and there was nothing he could do about it anymore.
