Adelaide had some free time and instead of reading or playing a game with one of her new family members she had instead headed out towards the fence. She had told everyone she needed some alone time, but that hadn't been the truth. She was needing some time with family, and not her newly adopted one. She missed her brother and this morning when she woke up she decided to do something about it. She knew better than to stroll into the Dauntless compound for no reason, there was no telling the amount of rudeness and anger she would face so instead she went to the fence. There was no guarantee that she would see him here, in fact she doubted that she would see him at all but it was the only thing she could think of. The fence was patrolled by Dauntless guards, and the last time she had been in Dauntless he was well on his way to become a guard. She had slipped a book, her small writing pad and a pen into her bag and headed out. It wasn't horribly far from her compound, it was just enough distance to be semi-private. The upside to this was that if she did see him they could talk alone and the downside was of course that if he wasn't here she could very well be alone with other Dauntless guards who might be a little less...friendly. She began her trek and let her mind wander a little. She had a play she was going to be in tonight. Nothing huge of course, just some silly little production that one of her roommates asked her to be in. She wasn't good at acting, but she didn't mind helping them out. Her roommate was a fantastic actress and the whole group loved it when she and the others put on a show. She herself was more into the laughing and dancing aspect of having fun. She didn't like anything that required seriousness and attention. That was reserved for when she was actually working, when she wanted to relax she didn't want to have to think about it. She continued walking until she came to the fence. Sighing a little because there was no one there in sight she sat down and pulled out her notepad. She wasn't good at drawing so instead she opted to write. She began writing about her last case at the counseling center, her thoughts wandering back to her job.

"Clark, you gotta take Johnson's place for today at the Fence." Without saying more his senior closed the door again and left. Slightly taken aback Vincent stared at the door for a minute before letting himself fall back onto the mattress. "Oh great." he grumbled, letting out a sharp sigh of annoyance. Today was supposed to be his free day but apparently because one of the fence guards got into a fight the other night and was now lying comfortably in the medical wing he had to step in.
It was already late and this was a last-minute schedule change so he quickly dressed himself in one of the standard dauntless uniforms consisting of a black shirt with dark red accents, black pants and a long line fitting leather jacket. With booted feet he jogged down the hallway to the pit and then up the flight of stairs. Standing at the very top of the building he breathed in the fresh air which was pretty rare down in the dauntless compound. Pebbles crunched beneath his feet as he walked towards the train tracks as he watched the incoming train. After years of experience keeping up with it and jumping on was quite easy for the twenty one year old dauntless guard. With ease he grabbed the handle and hauled himself onto the train, pushing the door button with his fist and finally rolling inside as the door opened. Leaning against the cold metal he sat quietly as he rushed by the city.
Reaching the end of the tracks Vincent jumped out as the the train slowed down, landing on his feet without trouble. Hands stuffed inside the pockets of his jacket he strolled over to the fence looking up at it. Best way to spend your free day. Without much motivation he climbed up the stairs to the small room then knocked at the window before opening the door. "Ready to work." he said pretending to be serious. "Check the fence." the bulky guy in front of him said before turning back to the screens which looked way more interesting than walking up and down the wired fence. With a nod he closed the door and left, walking down the stairs until he was at the bottom again. And then hours of simply patroling it began.
After a while he threw his hands up in the air out of frustration. Grumbling he returned to the front, tilting his head to the sides his neck cracking. That's when he spotted a girl, probably a couple of years younger than him and definitely not a Dauntless member. As curious as he was he took a few steps towards her, hands once again stuffed into the pockets of his jacket. Blue eyes narrowed at the person before he was near enough to get a more clear view of her.
"Adi?" he asked hesistant his arm reaching out to tap the shoulder of the familiar looking blonde.

The pencil was moving quickly against the pad of paper as her thoughts poured into the page. Her mind tended to race and spark with new ideas the more she thought about something which meant that the whole page was covered in a mix of random words next to serious ramblings. She followed ideas like a child followed butterflies through a field. Always jumping to the next without taking time to make sense of anything or worry about any negativity. She had just written something down about breathing exercises and calmness when someone said her name and made her jump a little with surprise. The pencil fell to the ground and she instantly knew whose eyes she would see when she looked up. She had known it the moment her brain registered what voice she heard, her brother. She knew his voice anywhere, the voice that used to be the only one who had ever stood for anything good in Dauntless, at least in her opinion.
A huge grin instantly appeared on her face at the sight of her brother, her eyes filling with happiness that her random plan had actually worked. She immediately stood and before she could stop herself she threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly. She then quickly remembered how different things were now and quickly stopped hugging him, the smile faltering a little as she put her hands down and moved a little away from him. " Sorry..I know I shouldn't of...I just...sorry." She let herself look at him for the first time in so long and noted all of the changes in him. He was taller than she remembered and he seemed to be more rigid although that might have been from the shock of seeing her randomly after so long, he looked a little more like a Dauntless soldier than she had figured he'd look. He was beginning to look more like their father which wasn't a bad thing, just another little something she hadn't expected.
She hated what their relationship was now. It didn't seem fair that they could grow up together and be related by blood but were unable to be friends. It was so strange looking at your family member and knowing that you weren't supposed to think of them in a caring way anymore. She wondered if there were others like this, other people who were separated by the factions and who actually were bothered by it. She knew there were other families torn apart that happened all the time, but somehow to her it was easier to lose her parents than it had been to say goodbye to Vin.

He heard the pencil drop to the ground but in that moment he was more interested in knowing if the blonde in front of him was his sister or not but he was soon proven to be right. It was Adelaide. All of a sudden she hugged him and even though it was his sister he didn't move at first slightly unsure what to do. He hadn't seen her for a year after all, however, after a couple of seconds of doing nothing he carefully put his arms around her patting her back just lightly but before he could even consider hugging her more tightly she let go, moving away from him. A faint frown replaced his rather confused expression as he looked at her looking at him.
Chuckling quietly he bend down, picking up the pencil which dropped to the ground earlier brushing off the dirt. "Don't be sorry." he said, smiling ever so slightly at his little sister he had missed as any other brother would have, holding out the pencil. Even if he wasn't capable of showing her that he missed her, a lot, right now he would try his best to do it perhaps next time they meet if there is going to be a next time. Back then when she chose Amity instead of Dauntless he was not surprised nor angry about it. In contrary to their parents he approved and accepted the decision she decided to make and if choosing a different faction would make her happy it would make him happy as well.
But the year without her affected and changed him more or less. Adelaide was, you could say, like sunshine in his life - the light in the darkness. Around her he used to be the protective brother, fun and kind. Now, after a year without the sunshine he needed the was a notable difference. He behaved more like a Dauntless, became more serious at least to some extend, and just shut out what he was before when she was around. It was quite a surprise for him to see her here, at the fence - a place he would have never thought to meet her. But then again it was still better than the Dauntless compound.
"Are you sure you're my sister? I'm sure she was smaller and her hair was shorter." he said, trying to loosen then tension between them.

Adelaide watched her brother pick up the pencil and smiled as he told her not to be sorry. She was thankful that he wasn't mad at her. She didn't know if she could take him pushing her away. She had already lost their parents, which wasn't really anything to lose, but she knew she couldn't lose him. She couldn't lose the boy who used to protect her from the others, the one who taught her how to throw a punch and made her feel like she wasn't anything to be embarrassed about. She took the pencil from him that he had picked up and slid it inside her small bag next to the notebook.
When he smiled and made the small joke she had laughed and touched her hair a little. She was growing it out, now that she was in a place where her hair could be curled or long without having to worry about it being pulled in fights. Here she didn't have to keep it up and away from her face to see targets. She almost laughed at thought of even something as simple as having long hair was a target in that life.
" Yea, I'm pretty sure. The hair might be longer but I can still kick your butt Vinnie." She grinned and looked him over. He had a few more scars than she remembered and she noticed a few bruised places. She hated the idea of him fighting, but knew better than to say anything about it. Fighting was as normal as breathing there. The kids fought, the teens fought, the adults fought....it was as normal a thing as singing or dancing was in Amity. " And you're one to talk, I think you're like a foot taller than me now, and more...guard-ish." She grinned a little. It was surreal seeing her big brother all decked out in a guard's uniform. He looked official and if she hadn't of know him quite intimidating.
She wanted to know everything, how he was, what he was doing, how their family was, but she tried to pace herself. She was enjoying him at the moment, the familiar way he moved, the happy look in his eyes. She wanted to take it all in and enjoy it, there was no telling when she would see him again or if there would be another opportunity to catch up. " So how are you Vin? Your guard uniform looks good, are you enjoying it? " She brushed a piece of dirt off of his uniform and smiled happily.
