Lawyers, rule-followers, political activists. What did she want to be when she came out of her initiation? Blair wasn’t even sure she wanted to study law - it seemed like such a trivial part of society, defending people guilty or not wasn’t where she saw herself. Perhaps then she was destined for a life of more policing and prosecuting. Maybe she could be a judge. Flipping the page of the law-doctrine, she chewed on the side of her finger until she tasted blood in her mouth. Boredom. That was what it was. It wasn’t that she wasn’t willing to study law, it was that it absolutely bored her. Why had she chosen Candor again?
Standing up, the young blonde tossed her hair behind her shoulders and then straightened her thick-framed glasses. She shut the book quietly and walked out of the headquarters’ small library, desperate for some fresh air. Maybe she wouldn’t feel so contained if she could just get out. She walked through the white tiled hallways and made her way out of the maze and into the sunlight. It was the perfect day to be outside - but she wasn’t surprised to see that many of her initiate friends weren’t around. They were probably studying for the bar...or telling their secrets to anyone who would listen. What Blair would give to tell her secrets...
Outside, she watched a train whiz by and she could hear the shouts of the Dauntless guards coming back from another day of watching The Fence. What a strange life they led - most certainly. She sat down on one of the benches and crossed her legs, looking up into the sky. There was so much more in the world than black and white...blue, orange, green...red. Red? She raised an eyebrow and realized that she had been staring into the sun too long and she was now seeing streaks of color in response, “Certainly not Erudite.” She laughed to herself. Maybe she did belong in Candor...or maybe she had made a grave mistake so that she could prove a point to her father.

Cain was walking through the candor sector. The 22 year old had nothing better to do other than walk around. He could just write songs back where all the factionless people were but they scared him a little bit. Maybe he should have chosen a faction. Just so he could have people to talk to.
Cain flipped his long red hair behind his shoulder as he heard a voice. He looked and saw a girl younger than him sitting looking around. He didnt want to be a creaper but he didnt want to be alone. Cain could pass for younger than he was thoughn. Cain sighed and walked over to her and sat next to her.
"What is so wrong about eriudte?" Cain asked looking up at the sky.

Blair immediately felt herself bounce out of her trance as she realized that there was someone else there. Factionless by the looks of him - long hair, tattered clothes. She cocked her head slightly to the side, fascinated for a moment in time. Her father didn’t like her venturing out into the world to much and she could count on one had the times that she had spoken to the Factionless. He came closer and then proceeded to take a seat next to her. Honestly, she had been looking for the company but had never expected it to come from someone like this.
“Nothing wrong with ‘em, just not for me.” B shrugged her shoulders as she followed his gaze back up to the sky. Who was he? Where had he come from? There were so many more things that she wanted to know about the world around her...Maybe he had been kicked out of his faction for something he hadn’t done. Again, she came to the same conclusion; sometimes factions weren’t just black and white. What if none of the factions were really for her...? She had tested Dauntless, but still chosen Candor. What if there wasn’t a place for her in this society? Would she end up factionless like this guy? “Staring at the sun too long.” She clarified what she had been doing moments before, “I’m not the brightest light bulb, I don’t think I’d make it. They’re cutthroat intellectuals, you know.”
Shaking her head she held out her hand to him, “Blair Pratt. Nice to meet you, Rapunzel,” Shit. Had she said that out loud? Sometimes Blair forgot how blunt she could be. Immediately she laughed and then shook her head, “Don’t take offense, I’m a bit of a call-’em-like-I-see-’em kind of girl.”

Cain pulled his head back and laughed. She said that erudite wasnt for her. He agreed with her full heartedly. "That i can agree with sweetheart." He looked up at the sky and sighed. He didnt get to do this very often. He was always busy or just not caring about the world.
"Yes that they are. I lived with them till i was 16." He told her. "I would have to say i think the dauntless initiates have it harder." Cain sighed and ran a hair through his long red hair. He didnt want the abnegation people to cut it even though they kept insisting on it. Then the girl stuck her hand out to him and cain took it and shook her hand. She said her name and then called him. Rapunzel. He tilted his head back and laughed. Typical candor thing to say. "Names Cain." He told her beforr letting her hand go and smiling at her.

Blair wondered briefly if he ever braided his hair...or let someone in his faction braid his hair. Then she realized what she was thinking. Of course he didn’t, he lived with the factionless. She was sure there was no braid-doing and sing-songing to be had there. His laughter drew her out of her thoughts and she smiled happily, at least she was making some sort of a good impression instead of him being offended by her comments. At least he wasn’t upset...
Shrugging her shoulders she wanted to ask more about his life in Erudite, “Why’d you leave? Or did you get kicked out?” She asked blatantly. Yep, through and through she was a Candor Girl. She wasn’t afraid to call it like she saw it...except for-
Well she didn’t think about stuff like that. Blair immediately banished the incoming thought from her head with a shake and then returned to smiling, “Dauntless probably have it the worst. I heard they have to eat a scorpion. Live.” She raised both of her eyebrows in excitement and then laughed. Maybe they did, maybe they didn’t...she would never know. She hadn’t gone. Maybe she should have...She would have totally tried to eat a scorpion live. How cool would that have been? Laughing to herself she shook his hand.
“Wasn’t Cain the guy that killed his brother in the bible?” She made a face, “Did you kill your brother?” Always full of questions, the blonde was. She paid no attention to the political correctness of her statements, she was so used to being around people who didn’t care about censoring themselves.

The red headed male closed his eyes and thought about his little brother. His brother was now an official dauntless member. Cain was proud of his little brother. He got away from the family and that was a good thing. He felt a little bad for his brother but honestly the 22 year could careless. But his little brother was still his little brother. Then the candor girl asked him another question. He opened his eyes and laughed a little bit. "We sure are a curious one are we not?" He asked her before speaking again, "I dont fit in any of them and i knew i would not pass the initiations they would put me through so i chose to become factionless." He told her.
Cain didnt really even care about the factions. He would raither they not be active and it be like what people say the world was like before the war. He knew that would never happen. Everybody had their pride to maintain. So they had to stay in their factions. The blonde spoke again asking him another question. "Well to be honest sweetheart i have never read nor seen a bible so i wouldn't know." He said before laying on the ground with his hands behind his head. He didnt get much relax time.

He commented on her curiosity and Blair could do nothing but nod her head. She had always been a curious little thing - not only with her questions, but with her actions too. The first one to jump up and volunteer for projects, the first to see the Dauntless and realize that there was more to life than just honesty. And yet...here she sat, with her head still buried in the sand while she sat in Candor. Did she belong anywhere? She had made her choice of faction despite her test telling her Dauntless, but did she actually belong? Did she belong anywhere? Maybe she was just another Factionless face in the crowd. The slight realization stung a little...but maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. Cain Hawking seemed to be doing just fine in his current state of affairs, “Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.” She grinned wickedly.
What was it like to choose the Factionless above everything else? Blair couldn’t imagine feeling like she didn’t belong...actually, she could. With a secret that burned a hole in her very soul, there was something so dangerously alienating about keeping such a secret in the middle of Candorian life, “So rather than actually try them out, you just quit? Where’d your test put you?” She asked, cocking her head slightly to the side. He had already pegged her as curious, why not go all out?
He called her sweetheart again and Blair laughed a little, then she felt embarrassed. There were probably few people that had actually seen a bible before in their lives. Blair was a lucky one - her mother loved the old works of literature - she thought they were the perfect sources of lawful arguments in the courtroom. Cain laid down on the grass and B leaned back a little as well, staring up into the sky, “Sorry,” She breathed, embarrassed, reaching up to brush some of her blonde hair away from her eyes.
