CHRISTOPHER JACOB HAWKING
19 -- DAUNTLESS full name: Christopher Jacob Hawking nicknames: Hawk age: 19 faction birthplace: Erudite current faction: Dauntless sexuality: Homosexual occupation: Initiate Instructor play by: Nolan Gerard Funk
personality: Christopher Jacob Hawking is what they call a troubled soul. Ridiculed and beaten as a child for being gay, he definitely has emotional scars. Christopher doesn't trust easily because of this, so if he chooses to place his trust in you you'd better hold tight to it. Generally the male is cold and aloof, but compared to the other male instructor he's downright peachy. Hawk, as he's called now, is easier on the initiates than he probably should be, often helping the stragglers out long after training time is over.
This likely has to due with the fact that Hawk lives on a 'no man left behind' basis. He values teamwork and the only sure way to get on this guys bad side is to play the victim card instead of taking responsibility for your own actions. Because he was an Erudite transfer, Christopher has a sharp mind though he definitely can't be called a genius. Chris values truth, which is probably why he's shown a bit of an aptitude for Candor. If you want to make an enemy of him, the quickest way is to tell a lie to his face.
It's not all that often that Chris lets himself loosen up around his fellow Faction-mates. But, when he does, the man is a sight to behold. With his head thrown back and his eyes alight with joy, Chris has an almost infectious happiness. When he's laughing and joking, others can't seem to want to join in and get close to this occasional ray of sunshine. Still, Chris has some dark places deep inside, and it'll take someone truly special to bring him fully into the light.
mother: Hannah Hawking father: Roark Hawking siblings: Jordan[27], Cain[22], & Valerie Hawking[22] other: None history: Christopher Jacob Hawking was born the fourth son to Hannah and Roark Hawking. With three perfect Erudite siblings before him, the Erudite couple were hoping for a fourth to add to their little brood. They should have stopped while they were ahead. Christopher was normal enough as a kid, and he showed sure signs of intelligence, though not at the high levels of his other three siblings. Things changed drastically when Christopher turned ten, though. He began having certain.. feelings.. for other boys. One day, his eldest brother Jordan, 18 at the time, walked in on Chris kissing his best friend, Maveric. Now, it's widely known that young kids sometimes experiment, and so the incident was brushed off with nothing more than a stern talking to. Unfortunately, Christopher's actions weren't merely a phase, as his parents thought.
At the age of fourteen, Christopher came out to his family as openly gay. From that point on, his life in Erudite was a living hell. Erudite are prized for their knowledgeable views, and one would think that as such they would understand and accept homosexuality. And yes, some did, yet still others did not. Unfortunately for him, Christopher's own family were firm non-believers in homosexuality, and they considered Christopher a screw up because of it. Although his mother, Hannah, hated seeing her son ridiculed, she did nothing to stop her husband for beating Chris senseless when he made even the smallest of mess-ups. In Roark Hawking's mind, he was 'teaching' his son how to be a better man. At this point in time, all of Chris's older siblings had left the home, and though Jordan was the only one that stayed in Erudite, he never made any moves to help his younger brother escape the toxicity of his home life.
When aptitude day came, Christopher couldn't have been happier. Somehow, the now sixteen year old boy knew he would not test into Erudite, and even if he did he vowed to himself that day that he would become faction-less before staying with the knowledge-seekers of the factions. It seemed that luck was finally on Christopher's side, though, for when he was presented with the choice of cheese or knife, he chose the knife, and when faced with a threat, he attacked simply because he was tired of being a victim.
On choosing day, Christopher opted to transfer into Dauntless, despite having an aptitude for Candor as well. In all honesty, he doesn't know what made him choose Dauntless. But to this day, Chris is glad that he did.
He'd taken the test. Gotten Candor and Dauntless. He'd stood on the platform. Chosen Dauntless. The train arrived. He got on. The roof came. He landed on it. Now, Erudite faction transfer Christopher Jacob Hawking was standing on said roof with the rest of his group around him. Already, two had died, one jumping onto the train, and one getting off it. Although they'd been standing motionless for a while now, Chris's heart was still beating wildly in his chest. Raising a hand, he brushed his dirty blonde locks from his face, noticing absently that somewhere along the way he'd lost the thick-rimed Erudite glasses he'd donned at the start of the day. Still, the male simply shrugged, shaking himself from this thoughts as he stared at the man ahead from the back of the cluster. "Hello there initiates! My name is Viper, and I'll be only one of your instructors during your stay here at Dauntless headquarters. I say stay, because truth be told some of you aren't going to make it through the first day of initiation." The man, Viper, paused, and Christopher had to give him props. He knew how to draw people in. "This is the first part of your initiation. It's simple. Really. All you have to do is jump."
As expected, there were sharp gasps here and murmurs there. No one stepped forward. "Aww, is everyone here too scared to jump? Pathetic! If you bunch of babies are all we've got for initiates now-a-days boy, do I feel sorry for you. Not." Christopher's brow crinkled, and without thinking it through he raised his hand. "I'll do it. I'll go first." People cast around curious glances, and some glares landed upon the sandy-haired male, though it wasn't much of a surprise. "Oh? A Nose is gonna go first. Well, be my guest." Viper stepped aside, gesturing to the black hole with a venomous grin plastered on his face. Taking a deep breath, Christopher forced himself to stop thinking. Too afraid he would chicken out when he got to the edge of the gaping hole, he did the only other thing he could think of. He ran.
There was no possible way to stop his forward momentum as he leaped into the air with a loud "WHOOP". There were shouts of alarm behind him, and he had a split second to pray that he wasn't falling to his death before the darkness swallowed him. Chris landed with an oof a bit disoriented at first as he tried to force his eyes to adjust to his surroundings. When they finally did, he was surprised to find a hand in front of his face. "Hey there! The name's Howl. Man, who'd have thought a Nose would be the first to jump? And dude, I gotta say, you really flew up there! Anyways though, what's your name? Oh! And just a heads up, you can give yourself a new name, if you'd like. Can be anything you want, too." Chris let the words wash over him, still a bit stunned that he'd actually done it. The male blushed, realizing he was sort of holding things up here. Clearing his throat, the looked Howl in the eye. "Hawk. My name is Hawk."
