Growing up in Candor like any other he sees most of the things in black and white. The truth is very important to him and he does not like being lied to. This boy can't lie to save his life. Even though he usually doesn't even try if he does it will end up in either stuttering a whole lot or awkward silence afterwards.
He has a loose mouth and can be pretty blunt, not shying away from saying his opinion or just commenting on things no matter who it is he is talking to. He doesn't care what others think whether they are mad, ignore it or actually think it's great. It just happened to be that way. He could just be passing by but if he hears someone talking about something he cannot resist not to say something.
Despite being a Candor he has severe trust issues because he knows everybody lies. It's hard for him to become anywhere near close to others and usually ends up pushing them away or just keeping them as 'simple aquaintances he talks to once in a while'. He doesn't exactly favor keeping to himself all the time.

Candor. Candor. Candor. Where the truth is the most important thing. At least that was what they told you all the time. During his whole life his family and friends have hammered that ideal into his head. Successfully. He grew up learning everything regarding the truth and reasons why it is so important and why lies should not be accepted. In school and from his family training he also learned how to read bodylanguage and facial expressions as well as the different ways voices change when someone talks which come into handy when trying to detect lies.
However, not all Candor were so strict about the truth. For instance his dad apparently wasn't. He had an affair with another woman and Elijah knew it, he found out by chance and told his mother as soon as she asked them at dinner what they did during the day. Being the Candor he was he told her the truth without hesitation.
Of course his father wasn't too happy about it. He punished him, although didn't assault him. Elijah was put into the small closet he owned for hours or even days, hence having claustrophobia. He usually steers clear of tight spaces and starts sweating and getting nervous as soon as doors in a room close. Wherever he is he leaves doors open as he sees them as escape possibility in emergencies.
During the aptitude test day he was neither excited nor nervous. It was just a test and he already knew what his result was going to be: Candor. As expected. He left the school and returned home to announce his result to his family with proud. But for some reason he didn't feel excited or happy about it at all but neither did he feel sad or angry about the result. For some odd reason he didn't care anymore.
Having prepared to choose Candor all his life making the final decision on choosing day was easy. He held his hand over the glass and let his blood drop on the substance in the bowl, marking himself has Candor.
After going through initiation with ease he aquired a job as interrogator, helping others to find out if someone is telling the truth or telling lies. He doesn't have much on his hands but usually is asked for help by the Dauntless to interrogate the ones who have broken the law or were charged with minor criminal charges etc. He hates paperwork though.
