LUCIUS ICARUS RIDLEY-- 21 -- DAUNTLESS full name: Lucius Icarus Archer Ridley nicknames: LIAR, Archer, Luc, Riddle age: 21, December 21st faction birthplace: Amity current faction: Dauntless sexuality: secretly homosexual occupation: Professional Fighter play by: Theo James
L I K E S :: - guys - running - hard workers - training - strategy games like Capture the Flag - having everything in their own place, so cleanliness - drawing - nature
D I S L I K E S :: - initiates - bullies - lazy people - the dark - people who don't take any pride in themselves - girls - tight spaces
F E A R S :: - fire - confined spaces - being found out as gay - death of close friends - dogs
S E C R E T :: - is homosexual, but pretends to be heterosexual to hide this
T A L E N T S :: Combat (specifically hand-to-hand or with a knife) -> Well most soldiers believe that a key to surviving a fight based on the success of you with your weapon, Lucius does not agree with this at all. He believes that you should not way heavily on how good or bad your opponent is with a weapon, but how one deals without so much as a knife to help you. Therefore, he has taken every opportunity in fine tuning his physical combat skills, using ones own body to take down your attackers. This is perhaps another valuable skill that was came from his father not that he cares about his family much. He is not as graceful in his hands on fighting than he is with a blade, but no less lethal in his hits. He is not someone you want to mess with at on a regular basis, being that he is in good condition and quite strong. He is more certainly not opposed to taking someone out if needed with a good punch or kick to an appropriate target, working out often when he can. He also excels with handling a knife having a lot of control when using one and having for the most part good aim.
Observant -> Because Lucius doesn't have a lot of friends and doesn't spend a lot of time with other members of Dauntless, he tends to be a lot more quiet than some of them. Nothing wrong with his voice or anything, he just doesn't go around talking to people unless they talk to him first, simple as that. This also means he's more observant of the the world around him, able to pick up on people's weaknesses and nervous ticks so if they do tick him off he can hit them where it hurts. He can also pick up on when people are or have been abused and such, not that he's come across many. He just happens to be more aware of his surroundings than everyone else which also helps him as a Professional Fighter. He notices the little things that people miss and will point them out if needed which is sometimes why he goes to watch the initiates during phase one of training. He can sometimes pick out things that instructors might miss though it doesn't happen often and usually keeps most of his opinions to himself.
Ability to keep Calm ->Right, so Lucius is able to keep herself composed and focused during difficult situations allowing him to access what needs to be done. There is the exception of his fears which are mentioned higher up in the fear section, but this is regards to more dangerous situations where he's not trying to put his life in danger and it happens anyways. This probably stems from the fact that he doesn't fear dying and is able to push such thoughts of failure and grizzly ends in order to do what he can to get herself out of the situation. He can also bring this sense of calm to the other through her ability to make jokes and keep people pulled away from unpleasant thoughts that may have trapped them inside their own mind. No, it doesn't always work, but he certainly tries his best given a stressful situation in which they need to react fast.
V U L N E R A B I L I T I E S :: Recklessly Impulsive ->So a impulsive behaviour that probably needs to be stamped out is his inability to see his life has any real meaning in it. Time and time again he puts herself in risky and dangerous places without thinking about the potentially fatal results from such ideas only looking to satisfy whatever need be satisfied. He has no care for his own safety and if he isn't careful he could end up killing himself because he was too reckless to think about the end results. This is most definitely shown when it comes to helping a fellow comrade or friend out of a bad situation. Luc would much rather save someone else's life at the cost of his own life. Course, he just likes the thrill of pulling off dangerous stunts such as a lot of climbing trees and the old ferris wheel. This is perhaps his biggest weakness with physical contact considering he doesn't really care that much about his own safety, but rather the safety of those around him. Where this stemmed from is hard to say, but he has never been able to watch people mess with those who are defenceless and although he doesn't like a lot of people, nobody deserves to die.
Physical Contact (in terms of comfort, love etc) -> Lucius never really got much of a childhood revolved around hugs, kisses and what not so it's actually something relatively new to him in terms of having it used as a gesture of love or comfort. I don't mean he'll melt like butter if you poke him or hug him, but I mean he certainly has a weakness when it comes to be touched. Hit the right buttons and he can actually be easily manipulated and or is more prone to suggestion. Course, this also means that he tends to stay away from people that are huggers, or generally people who just are the cuddly physical type. He also flinches a lot when touched just in general which throws people off thinking he was abused or something which isn't really that true. He was never outright abused, but he was also never really shown any sort of affection like hugs, kisses, comfort of any sort in terms of physically. In fact the whole thing is sort of new to him and rather strange.
Standing Still -> Actually one of the hardest things for Lucius is the idea of sitting around and doing absolutely nothing all the day which might be why one of his fears involves claustrophobic elements. He is not by any means claustrophobic... okay maybe a little, but he certainly hates the idea of sitting still. He can't do it unless he has a reason to such as for sparing or playing strategical games, but otherwise he is always on the go. Whether he is learning new skills, fine tuning old ones or just walking around outside, he never does anything without there being a reason. I'm pretty sure if you asked him what the word relax means he would give you a look that says he has no idea what you are talking about. Yes, he does take breaks from his training, but it's usually something else like walking around, reading, mind games, cards anything that isn't just sitting there looking bored. He also doesn't tolerate it in initiates and certainly has told one or two off when they have said they are bored finding them something else to do. Another reason initiates don't typical like being around Lucius because he certainly doesn't enjoy watching people being lazy. In his mind, you can be lazy when your dead or seriously injured. Basically he's your typical workaholic.
O V E R A L L :: Lucius's overall personality is that of a man that prides himself on being in great physical health both mentally and physically through intensive training. Every morning he wakes up and goes through an intense physical workout always making sure his skills are in good shape. He's a little more serious than some of the other members and certainly doesn't spend a lot of time socializing with others unless they are friends of his. Friends are few and far apart considering that he is heavily guarded appearing cold and distant around most including initiates. You can basically break his personality into two different groups, almost like he has split personality, considering he is totally different around people who are in his inner circle and those who are no. With those in his inner circle, he can be seen as caring, protective and loving despite what you might initially think of him. He's the kind of guy you could go to for anything and know that he will have your back 100% because he is loyal and loves to help most people. On the other hand, with those he doesn't trust and most initiates he comes off as cold, distant and not exactly the guy you really want to tick off more than necessary. He's sarcastic in his humour and around initiates he tends to be a lot harder on them, especially those who are lazy and or attention-seekers, occasionally having made a few of them cry. That isn't to say, he isn't someone who wouldn't help an initiate out of they asked him, but you have to earn it by proving you're willing to go the extra mile to become a member of Dauntless. He's also a lot more quiet than the average Dauntless. You could also say he lives dangerously, not really caring about the risks at which he puts his life in sometimes. This is especially true when it comes to fighting and one of his comrades is injured, he would rather risk himself to save another.
mother: Ariel Ridley father: Thomas Ridley
history: Even at a young age, Lucius always knew that he was different than his parents and others in Amity where he was initially from, finding that he didn't share the same beliefs. He certainly wasn't the kindest and most definitely wasn't always a peaceful little boy, having quite a temper on him sometimes. He was born to Ariel and Thomas Ridley who weren't exactly the greatest parents, but were not the worse. They never hit him or hurt him physically, but they also didn't exactly show much kindness towards him putting him into work the moment he could. They just tended to be more of the tough love family and hardly ever showed him any kindness in the ways of comforting him when he was sick or hurt. They told him to suck it up and although he found it odd, he never bothered to ask about the fact that other parents hug their children. He simply accepted his part in the family and planned for the day when he could leave the family. A family that never hugged him or touched him with exception of when he was first born. After that there was nothing and his whole life was focused on hard work and emotions that his parents didn't believe to be considered weak. He still got fed and still functioned like a normal child, despite the fact that he was also unable to do a lot of things that he should have had a chance to do. Things like playing with friends, using your imagination, playing silly games, rough housing etc.
Through the teenage years he became a bit more of an introvert spending time playing alone rather than with friends considering it was all he ever knew. That didn't mean he could talk or anything, he just preferred to keep to himself, running, climbing and doing other things that allowed him to escape his family. He had quite an attitude back then and certainly made it hard sometimes for his parents, but he didn't exactly care considering they were well them. He had no love of them and probably would never really feel any sort of loss for them when or if they met their demise. It wasn't until teenage years that he also realized he was more fond of boys rather than girls which scared him. He just found boys to be more appealing than girls finding most to girls to be weak-minded and a lot were very damsel in distress like wanting a prince to sweep them off their feet. It wasn't until he was about fifteen nearing his test that he finally came to terms with being gay. It was also that time when he thought about coming clean to his parents, but found that they would be very negative in their response. So he kept it a secret feeling rather ashamed of his sexuality and certainly finding it hard to fit in though he certainly made himself out to be a lady's man. He did everything he could to hide the fact that he was interested in the opposite sex, including dating a few girls. One girl in particular was a good friend of his by the name of Angel who was pretty much the only other person who had figured out he was gay and yet accepted this helping him along. She allowed him to think of her as his girlfriend, never asking for anything in return finding they could confide in each other which was great for Luc who wasn't use to do. They even had plans to be in the same faction if only because they felt safer together.
During the Choosing ceremony, he placed himself into Dauntless wanting to get as far away from his parents as possible enjoying the change in scenery. Course, getting into Dauntless was easier said than done considering all the training they had to go through in order to get a spot in Dauntless. He was the first to pick so he waited for Angel to choose watching her walk to the stage. He closed his eyes smiling as he waited for them to call out Dauntless, only to be shocked when she chose Erudite which angered him above all else. She had been his friend and he had been betrayed by the only one who never questioned his sexuality. She was also probably the last girl he would ever fully trust again. Thankfully, he had a lot of muscles built up from time spent running every morning and then doing whatever chores and things that needed doing. He wasn't top of his game at the beginning and more than once he'd found himself on the bottom of the list before his first level of training, but he was persistant. Whenever he could he would squeeze in more time training rather than socializing with friends, doing anything he could to help himself. He was self sufficient and certainly didn't allow others to help him get through his training. Though he did manage to rank high up during the end of the first session and stayed relatively high up the ranks through his second art of testing. He didn't have the quickest times getting out of the situations, but he certainly was high enough to achieve what needed to be done. All in all, he impressed his instructors showing his dedication and independent learning skills along with good skills about working with others like in games. He certainly never gave them a reason to think he was anything, but a hard worker always up running every morning.
By the time of the final testing he managed to place in the top five of his group finding his skills lay in fighting and got himself a job working as one of the professional fighters. Even now despite being a permanent member of Dauntless he has yet to relax even once always seen doing something productive. He keeps his personal life heavily guarded for the most part making himself to appear cold, heart-less and distant, but with certain people he is so much more. He also has found that he likes drawing, but will never admit to it anyone, hiding that secret stress reliever from prying eyes. Either way show him you can be someone he can count on and he'll show you a whole other side of him you'd never know existed.
~Taken from another of my characters~ The weekend had arrived and students were looking forward to the chance to sit back and relax for two days or try to cram in let minute homework they hadn't done. The day was relatively slow and hardly anybody moved along the corridors or if they did no one was in any sort of hurry. However, one Professor has been up since the crack of dawn taking the weekend opportunity to go for a swim in the black lake. It was always rather cold, but with some warming charms she found it to be quite tolerable and so she had gotten into a two piece bathing suite and jumped in. She swam for a god while out there just as the sun started to come up signalling she should probably head in and get dressed. So she crawled out of the black lake grabbing the towel and drying herself off the muggle way before walking back to the castle. She was use to cold so it didn't really bother her all that much considering she'd spent ten years sleeping outside in a dog house. Shaking her head, still a little wet she made her way back up to her office and into her quarters found behind a portrait of some muggle horses. She spoke the password and it opened gently allowing her to slip into it and make her way to the bedroom. Once in her bedroom she smiled as she moved to stroke her pretty little ocicat named Belle who lazily flicked her tail not bothering to get up. Smiling she stroked Belle's pretty grey head and walked over to the drawers taking out some clothes.
She stopped when she caught a reflection of herself seeing the old scars and burns from her time spent in the home of a Pureblood who was completely against Muggle-borns. Though most would say she had a good reason to be fearful, she had chosen to see it as a learning experience and that she was in fact a survivor. She'd gone through hell and back finding her way back to Hogwarts as the Care of Magical Creatures Professor. Pushing back the memories, she deciding on a pretty blue shirt and jeans to go with the streaks of blue in her brown hair. Throwing socks on and the usual running shoes finding heals to be awful for walking in she made her way to the small kitchen. Inside she got out some food for Belle along with fresh water before leaving her stuff to dry and making her way out of the portrait. The portrait would open if Belle needed to leave, but at the moment she seemed content to lay in bed all day. Sighing gently she stretched and made her way out of the portrait hole towards the Great Hall. As she walked she thought about what it was she was going to do seeing as she hadn't had anything to mark that week and was allowed to do pretty much whatever. Reaching the doors, she greeted the odd student who passed by looking like a band of zombies making her chuckle a little. Making her way to the front she quickly took her seat at the table and went about helping herself to toast, eggs and bacon which was about the only thing she couldn't part with.
A few of the staff members were up and about, but she didn't really get into any sort of conversation not that she didn't like them, but she just wasn't an instigator for talking. If someone were to talk to her she would of course answer, but otherwise she was quiet as a mouse and went about eating her healthy meal. She was probably one of the very few health conscious Professors, but that didn't really bother her as she sipped some pumpkin juice. Seeing how nice a day it was she decided to go to Hogsmeade since it would be relatively student free. They'd just had a Hogsmeade trip so it was pretty safe to say she would have a rather nice time of it. She would go in the afternoon and pick up a few supplies that she needed and send word to her stable hands asking if there was anything new. Actually, she planned to go home this holiday assuming they weren't short staffed, but figured she hadn't left any of the other years so it would be okay. So when she finished her breakfast she exited the great hall and made use of her day figuring out next week's lesson plans. She also went to feed some of the animals having a lovely 'chat' with some of the unicorns who rather enjoyed her company. It was actually early evening when she finally headed back to the castle deciding to grab a sweater for her trip out. So she walked back to her office and walked in seeing Belle was no longer lying on her bed.
Pulling out a knitted sweater she'd gotten for herself, she made her way back out and towards the entrance hall with a list of things she needed to get. This was also her opportunity to explore since she hadn't really gone to any of the special Hogsmeade trips through her school years. She'd been much more focused on her studies and avoiding being bullied that she tended to opt out of going to anything remotely fun. Continuing her lovely walk down to Hogsmeade she had to admit that it was a pretty little wizarding community and it made her smile all the more. She greeted some of the shop keepers as she made about her supplies deciding to get something to eat at the Three Broomsticks. She had been so busy with her chores she'd forgotten to eat lunch though thankfully staff weren't really required at lunch on weekends. Making her way in she greeted the friendly waiter who kept trying to flirt, but was lost on Juliet. She never really did grasp the idea that people could be interested in her letting him usher her to the table where she took a seat in the booth. She ordered a small glass of red wine and some water telling him she needed a few minutes to look at the menu. He nodded and left while she took the time to look around the rather large place getting a feeling of the old place and rather enjoying the neat smells. The place was relatively quiet although there were some adults talking around a table seeming to be on some business celebratory thing or whatnot.
Still, for the most part it was quieter than it would have been had she'd gone during the afternoon on a Hogsmeade visit where students would be jamming the place packed and talking very loudly. She'd never really been a big fan of loud noises and it tended to grate on her sensitive ears though you'd never know about it. It was just as she was taking a sip of her wine that she heard the door opening signalling that somebody else was interested in this place. Don't get her wrong, she loved the Hogwarts food, but most of it tended to be on the borderline of healthy and she really wasn't into sweets or things of that nature. At least here she could order a steak or something relatively more healthy. Curiously, she peered round her seat wondering who it was that had entered the pub.
