I got a letter on my desk exactly 3 days ago telling me to come to work an hour early today. I wasn't exactly sure why but I was hoping it was some sort of promotion or a raise. I woke up early to actually put my hair up in a braid my sister showed me while I was still a student in Erudite. Putting on my white blouse and my pencil shirt I made my way to the interrogations office. It was a rather warm morning and their were more people out then I would think.

Coming in I smile with a casual good morning. Searching around in my bag for my ID, I scan the card and get in. A officer is waiting for me. "Mara Dyer?" He asked and I nodded still smiling. Motioning to follow him I did. Please be a raise. Please be a raise. We stopped in front of an office and I folded my hands. "Why are we stopping exactly?" The officer looked at me like he was scared to break the news. "You have been assigned a mentor."

"Wait - what?" I turn my head to the office door and I couldn't believe myself.

My jaw dropped. The shiny gold plate stood on the desk as though it was their just to mock me. It was calling out my name. I groan and look at the Officer as though to tell him really. This was defiantly just a cruel joke and everyone would laugh and we would all have a cup of disgusting coffee from the counter and get on with our lives.

"I will leave you two to it." His voice had a certain ring of laughter to it as he walked off. For once in my life I didn't know what to say. What exactly had gone wrong? My career was going along just fine. But this was not ok. He seems like the guy that's a work hog. He better let me have my fair share.

This could not be happening. I felt all my hard work had flown out the window. I give a look to my new mentor. "Well ins't this going to be interesting." My tone far from anything happy. I look down at my shiny black heals then look up again, with a smile. "I'm Mara Dyer, I am sure you have heard of me." My voice was sickly sweet. One of those voices my mother used to use when she was indirectly threatening me. "I am not looking forward to working with you."
