ERIKA R. PIERCE -- 16 -- DAUNTLESS full name: Erika Racquel Pierce nicknames: Eri, Rikky age: 16 faction birthplace: Abnegation current faction: Dauntless sexuality: Heterosexual occupation: Initiate play by: Emma Roberts
personality:
Erika likes to think of herself as selfless. A good example of what Abnegation should be. Though she doesn’t realise it, but this is the exact reason why she doesn’t belong there. She has a tendency to think of herself without realising it and even when she is helping someone she does so because it makes her feel good about herself.
Erika was left alone for the most part growing up thanks to her brother and if anyone mentioned him she would shake her head in disapproval like she was supposed to, but she secretly admired her brother’s courage. He broke the norm, and it takes strength to do something like that. She always wished she could be a little bit more like him – just a little bit – but never had the guts to be different.
She has very much become used to people not paying attention to her because of her brother’s loudness, but also because she was brought up in a Faction that for the most part goes unseen. This means that she can be a little socially awkward and shy, though since the mistake she made at the choosing ceremony, she has done her best to hide that anxiety away inside her.
She constantly craves acceptance, like most teenagers her age and she has yet to discover that she can overcompensate to get it. She is also prone to making bad, spur of the moment decisions, as if that were not obvious enough.
Her test was not wrong. She is kind-hearted almost through and through, just not in the selfless way that the Abnegation usually require. She wants to do right by people as much as possible and can often get caught in conflict between what is good for a single person, and what is good for the majority.
mother: Elena Pierce father: Lenox Pierce siblings: Max Pierce (Older brother) other: n/a history:
Under normal circumstances, Erika Pierce might have stayed with her own Faction, and her own family for her whole life. She was content, at heart a peaceful soul that found fulfilment in helping others. The Abnegation life was perhaps dull, but it was safe and predictable. People in Abnegation cared about each other and about other people, and so did Erika. She never wanted to cause trouble and her brother attracted so much attention that it was easy to blend into the background and go unseen.
The day of his choosing ceremony, there were no surprises in where Max Pierce belonged and even though her smile stayed on her face as she watched her brother walk away, she felt the pang of loss. She may have been comfortable in her Abnegation life, but when her brother left six years ago, everything seemed so much quieter. And rather than welcome the silence, she found it empty.
She grew up the perfect Abnegation daughter, born for the role society gave her and when it came to her choosing ceremony most believed quite strongly, just as they believed strongly of her brother that they knew what the result of her choice would be. Even she believed that her place would always be in the Faction of her birth, with her friends and her family. She was shocked then when she received her test results, that told her that she was better suited to Amity than to Abnegation. She did always love the sound of Amity’s laughter, but she had never thought that she could be one of them.
Her first reaction was that she had done something wrong, that she betrayed her family and her faction. How could she receive a result for Amity unless she was not selfless enough to be one of them? But she had no idea what she’d done wrong. It raised a terrible problem. She wanted to choose Abnegation, regardless of her test results, but how could she spend the rest of her life there when she was clearly doing something wrong? Amity was not such a bad place to go. They always seemed so happy and being part of a Faction known for their kindness was not so different in her mind from being in one that dedicated itself to helping others.
But she missed her brother.
It was a spur of the moment decision, the first one she ever made in her life that had her holding her hand over the burning hot coals. Even after the event she had no idea what possessed her to do it, but once it was done the only thing she could think of was finding the big brother that left her six years ago.
The birds were loud today. For several moments Pandora stood in the arched doorway to the Dark Altar in the long-lived Territory of Hayll and stared up at the flocks wheeling effortlessly through the morning updraughts. Loud, noisy birds. She shivered slightly and wondered how the birds were flying so enthusiastically when they hadn't even put on jackets. She could already feel the winter wind robbing her of her flexible muscle movement and leaving her sluggish. When she took a step out onto the slushy pavement she looked like she had aged several years, despite the fact that she was frozen quite solidly in her youth.
There was no ice involved in that process either.
The other Priestess that attended the Altar wasn't here yet. She slept like a reverse night owl and would stand watch during the brightest hours of the day. The brightest, because they certainly were not the warmest. Pandora didn't mind that so much. She was raised in the darkness and warmth of volcanic caves and spent her years since living the not-so-life of the undead, so winter sunlight was almost entirely alien to her.
Cold and bright. Who would have thought?
It was fitting though, that she stand vigil in the warm darkness. She was closer to the Darkness anyway.
"Good morning Lady Viatrix," came a familiar voice from just beyond the crest of the hill.
Pandora turned, though the motion was made in surprise it was not faster than a casual acknowledgement. So she raised her voice to compensate for the gesture. "LIAR! Reverse night owls sleep yet. They come too early! Too early!"
"Oh, my cat woke me up, so I thought I might as well bring you some breakfast," the Opal Jewelled Priestess smiled as she approached, lifting a basket to draw attention to it.
"Cats make gamy breakfast meat." Pandora complained.
"N-No! Not my cat. I brought some lamb's blood and meat for something to chew on. You must be tired of drinking your meals all the time."
"Infant sheep are acceptable to my belly."
The Priestess chuckled, clearly accustomed to Pandora's quirks. "Yes, I thought so."
