OLIVER LEIF HARPER-- TWENTY ONE -- AMITY full name: Oliver Leif Harper nicknames: Ollie (by his sister) age: Twenty One faction birthplace: Abnegation current faction: Amity sexuality: Heterosexual occupation: Event Planner play by: Eugene Simon
personality:
Oliver has always been and always will be a jokester. His sarcastically witty comments have been something that graced his life as a child, and even though he was often scolded for them, he never quite broke the habit. He's not all that tough to be honest and he was an easy target when he had attended school. He loves making others laugh and isn't afraid to be bold about it. He's a rather optimistic person, even if some of his comments sound pessimistic in view. He's normally quite comfortable around others and has impeccable social etiquette. He excels when it comes to general hospitality and keeps his cool in most situations. He's a very fun loving and normally easy-going individual that likes to go with the flow.
It's not all sunshine and rainbows with Oliver however he has a bit of a drinking problem that he developed after passing initiation. He's also a bit of a kleptomaniac…he doesn't mean to, but somehow other peoples' valuables end up in his hands. He always tries to return it - but it doesn't always return to it's original owner, so he does a few things lying around his yurt. Quite the charmer, Oliver happens to be a bit of a gardener and grows roses around his yurt. Every time he meets a girl he gives them one. Unless it's winter, then he has to resort to something else, probably something edible, though he's a disastrous cook. He tends to be quite business minded and occasionally beats around the bush.
Over exaggerating happens to be one of Oliver's favorite pass times. He has a various array of 'characters' in his motley crew of a personality. He often likes to masquerade as the princely type, but on occasion puts on his acting hat and tries to be the bad boy (which in fact is only him speaking in a deeper voice). To be honest however, Oliver can be a coward. The Dauntless have always been people that he teased lightly but quickly backed away from. Mostly because he fears them, like a lot of people do. He often takes a rather sheepish and anxious persona and normally can't wait to be out of their presence.
Parties are his element - and Oliver believes that no one can throw a better party than he can. No matter what kind of party it is - if it's legit, Oliver can make it great. He has an eye for decorating and he knows just who to call when it comes to providing food and entertainment. Namely his fellow Amity, so he sometimes masquerades around as a PR agent or manager of sort. He also has his hands in matchmaking, but that often leaves something to be desired. Being the cunning flirt that he is, he's had quite a few girlfriends in his past, getting him to remember them, well good luck on that.
Oliver has always been a pretty even-tempered kid, though he is prone to acts of bravery if he encounters violence. He maybe a bit a coward, he still cares for the well-being of other people. Though to be honest he just hopes they don't go for the face - that was his most appealing feature after all and he'd like to keep it that way. He tends to do pretty well among women and children - but albeit the opposite around other men. For some reason he knows what buttons to push and how to set them off, though this isn't always the case. He does have a handful of guy friends that tolerate his behavior, or at least he thinks they do.
mother: Theresa Harper - Abnegation father: Stuart Harper - Abnegation siblings: Jane Harper - Dauntless, 18 other: Finn Sorenson - Best Friend, Factionless, 21 history:
Oliver was the first born son of an Abnegation couple and was raised under the values of his faction. Even as a little boy, he loved to laugh and often didn't understand the point of selflessness. His sister was born three years after him, and she proved to be a test of his character. As soon as she was able to walk and talk, she spent a lot of her time embarrassing him. She quickly grew taller than him as they attended school and it was apparent that she wasn't a poster child for Abnegation either. Needless to say, school had been a fortress of torture and nightmares for him, due to not only his sister's bullying, but the bullying of other children as well.
He didn't begin directing things until he was thirteen years old. He had attempt to express himself and paint his room, but was force to repaint in the same drab gray after his parents told him that he was being selfish. This also sparked the beginning of his practical jokes and pranking. Since he couldn't physically get back at his sister, he resorted to terrorizing her in other ways - which often got him in trouble. He did this also the to the Dauntless for a short time before immediately stopping. His sister was one thing, Dauntless however, was a whole different can of worms.
When the aptitude test finally reared it's ugly head, Oliver was fully prepared to beat it. Not that beating it was possible, it was just there to discern what faction he was from, not give him a high score. As soon as he entered the test, he quickly became overwhelmed, he had completely failed the first part of it - why did he need to use a knife and cheese for? Was he going to eat? The next part went by rather smoothly, he had the dog chase after him instead, it may not have been the brightest idea, but at least the kid made it out alright.
When the train station came, where the Candor man was, and asked if he knew the man on the paper he was holding, he told him no. He continued to bother him and Oliver finally just walked away. The last part of the test was by far the most confusing - he was a large circular room with mirrors, nothing to left of him, nothing to the right. Suddenly one side of the mirrors open to a maze, and he began making his way through it. At one point he was given too choices - go down the darkened hallway or escape to the outside. He immediately went the outdoor route, and his soon his feet touched the outside, he woke up.
It was no surprise that he ended up getting Amity - to be honest he had expected it to be the default considering how terrible he just did on the aptitude test. It did give him an idea however - in Amity the rules were a lot more flexible. he could be who he wanted to be and not have to worry about being selfish. He could paint his room pink if he wanted to (not that he'd advise it) and he didn't have to hold doors open for people or spend the day doing community service. He could just have fun all the time…it sounded like a dream.
Oliver ended up transferring to Amity, and the initiation had been quite fun actually. It basically consisted of picking apples and singing along - two things he could do fairly well. After being formally accepted into Amity, he became an Event Planner and has been working to be one of the best ones in the business, if you can call it that. He eventually became the go to guy when it came to hosting parties - and he wasn't just restricted to Amity either. He became quite content with his new role (and gained a bit of an ego) and has been living the easy life.
