Em isn't that modest of a person to be honest. Growing up she often liked to call the shots, despite being the younger sister. She's not afraid to expression her opinion and growing up a Erudite didn't change the fact that she's one stubborn girl. However, Emerie was also quite close to her older sister Abigail, whom she looked up to. Emerie can be quite the determined young woman and doesn't like to give up.
Her resilient spirit has only strengthened since her sister's death and though she took it hard, it has only made her more focused on her future. Emerie was meant to stand out - not fit in, so despite being both clever and resourceful, her academic scores had always been less than stellar. She doesn't let that bother her however, as Emerie has a firm belief that her place is among the Dauntless - the faction that her sister had chosen.
Outgoing and outspoken, she's not afraid to be herself - even at the expense of everyone else. A take it or leave it kind of girl, she prefers to take things on full force than step back and think about it. She maybe a little rash and impulsive, but she has also proven to be a very kind person, though not gentle in the least. A far cry from the dainty girl her mother had imagined her to be, Em preferred to imagine the adventures she would go on, outside of Erudite.
Her family will always be her family to her, but her dreams - well that is something she is willing to fight for. She's not content with analyzing and calculating the world around her - Emerie wanted to live it and own it. Emerie has a tendency to show affection to those she feels close to - usually in the form of a hug. Emerie takes criticism with a level head - she'll accept it and then eventually figure out a way to be better.
Though she hasn't had her sixteenth birthday yet, she has already decided to follow in her sister's footsteps. Emerie doesn't mind being teased or prodded - her and her sister often did that too each other when they were younger. Instead she preferred to have negative comments roll off her back and focus on the positives. Her take charge attitude and fearless mindset have guided her this far and it hasn't steered her wrong yet.
That's not to say she's optimistic, there are plenty of times where Em wanted to shut out the world - especially when Abigail died. Though Emerie is aware that her and her sister are too different people, that doesn't stop her from using as a role-model as she prepares for her last year in Erudite. Emerie can be quite good humored as well and enjoys a good laugh - even if that means laughing at herself.

Em was second daughter of her parents George and Patricia Calderone and was always a step behind her older sister Abigail. As a child she felt jealous of her sister - she was older, prettier and had it all together, but as she grew, she realized that she could become like that too if she followed her sister's example. As the girls entered grade school, their sisterly bond was as strong as ever, for the most part, and they still had their share of fights. It was around this time Emerie began getting average grade - the disappointment of her parents.
Instead of studying like they was supposed to, Emerie and her sister often went out to play. Emerie especially loved to climb and pretend she was on adventures though she only began doing that after her sister expressed interest in it. As she grew in age, school became less and less important to her - much to the disappointment of her parents. She hadn't noticed it back then, but appeared that Abigail and her boyfriend Colton were getting closer. After they began dating, Emerie got used to having Colton around and even considered him a brotherly figure in her life.
When the choosing day came around, Emerie was excited for her sister, since she would be choosing the life she always wanted - that also meant that next year it would be her turn to choose. When the ceremony began, she settled in her seat beside her parents and watch. After a few other kids came up to choose, her sister's name was finally called. She watched her sister rise from her seat and walk towards the stage. Abby chose Dauntless - to Emerie's delight and to her parents disappointment yet again. Em felt bad for her parents, but she knew Abby would be happy as a Dauntless, it had things that Erudite couldn't provide, and Colton would be there.
Her dreams of her sister living a happy life were diminished when she learned that Abigail hadn't made it to Dauntless. When the news came that she had fallen to her death…Emerie had contemplated running away. But where would she go? Despite her fearless attitude towards adventures, she knew running away wouldn't solve anything and it was better to remain where she was then become factionless. Instead she holed herself up in her room when she wasn't at school and refused to talk to anyone about her feelings.
Since Abby's death, Emerie has become a tougher person and even though she's not over her death yet, she has already decided who she wanted to be. In honor of Abby, Em would join Dauntless when it was her time to choose. She would succeed for Abby and rise among their ranks like Abby would've. She knew it would mean disappointing her parents by having their other daughter leave their faction, but it was something she was willing to do for her sister. Em stilly remains in Erudite for the moment, but she eagerly awaits the day for her turn to choose.
